Nineteen of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A resurgent the Russian player secured his first title for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging season, winning just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually splitting with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks his first championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface since March of that year.

The win also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," commented world number 14 the champion.

"This title is in honour of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the former major winner, had lost his last six championship matches, comprising in Halle in the past months.

The player's counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his ability to play at the top level was finished.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

He recovered from a break down in the opening set against the difficult Frenchman, securing four of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his maiden professional victory, took control to push for a final set.

He defended 4 early chances in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he earned the title with a shot at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
